We'd had our eye on this address for a while

When it came back onto the market as a near-new Hamptons-style build — five bedrooms, three bathrooms — there was nothing to debate. Nothing to fix, nothing to overlook. And Wooloowin State School and Kedron State High both within walking distance sealed it.

We'd actually been watching this address for a while — it came onto the market a couple of times over the years before we finally got the timing right. Being brand new when we bought it made the decision easy: five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and that Hamptons-style build quality meant there was nothing to fix, nothing to compromise on. Wooloowin and Kedron State High both being practically walking distance sealed it for us with school planning in mind.

The open-plan living area downstairs

The ceiling height, the natural light — even with the whole family home at once, it never feels crowded or closed in. It's still the room everyone drifts toward without thinking, and it was the room that made us fall for the place to begin with.

The open-plan living area downstairs, easily. With the ceiling height and the amount of natural light coming through, it never feels closed in even with the whole family around. It's the space that made us fall for the house in the first place, and it's still where everyone naturally gravitates.

When it stopped being a house and started being ours

Not the boxes or the logistics — the moment it finally felt right. Watching the kids head straight upstairs to claim their rooms, furniture settling into spaces that had been waiting. Hard to explain, but unmistakable.

Moving in and finally seeing the place lived-in rather than just staged — watching the kids claim their rooms upstairs, furniture going into a space that had been empty for so long through all those listing cycles. It felt like the house was finally getting to be what it was built for.

A near-new build that needed very little

We added solar panels early on — practical given the size of the home. Beyond that, it was about settling in and making the space feel lived-in rather than changing anything structural. It was built well, and it showed.

Being a near-new build, we didn't need to touch much — we added solar panels early on, mostly for the energy savings given the size of the home. Otherwise, it was about settling in and making the space feel lived-in rather than changing anything structural.

One of those Brisbane pockets that rewards you

Tree-lined, genuinely quiet — but Racecourse Road's cafes and restaurants are a short trip away, and the city isn't far at all. Kalinga is the kind of suburb that reveals itself over time, and it's delivered on everything we hoped for.

Kalinga is one of those quietly excellent Brisbane pockets — tree-lined, genuinely peaceful, but you're a short trip from Racecourse Road's cafes and restaurants, and not far from the city at all. With Wooloowin and Kedron State High so close, it's an easy sell for anyone thinking long-term about schooling.
